Polycarbonate conservatory roofs are renowned for their durability. Unlike glass panels or roof tiles, polycarbonate roofing sheets will not chip or crack throughout their lifetime. You may however notice a build-up of dirt and grime, or severe discoloration if you don’t clean the polycarbonate sheets often enough.

In this guide, we’ll be teaching you how to clean your polycarbonate conservatory roof. We’ll reveal which soaps and tools you’ll need, as well as the most important times of year to show your conservatory roof a little tender loving care.

How to Clear Your Polycarbonate Roof Sheets?

To begin with, you should remove large debris such as leaves and tres branches. Be gentle in doing this otherwise you may scratch polycarbonate roof sheet and damage the coating.

When you start to clean your roof, inevitably debris and filthy water will flow into the guttering system. So you should clean your system beforehand to prevent clogging.

Do not use abrasive or erosive detergents when cleaning polycarbonate sheets as they might impair the coating on the sheet. Instead, use mild soapy water with lukewarm water. Lukewarm water helps break down tough stains.

Never use a rough sponge or sand paper to do the sheet cleaning for they may damage the coatings on your polycarbonate sheets. You should therefore use a soft sponge to gently clean your conservatory roof panels. Simply rub the sheets in the same direction as the flutes, which is usually vertical. This helps remove the dirt.

After you have rubbed off most of the dirt and stains on PC roof, yo may find some dirty water stains clinging to the surface of the roof. So the next step should be changing your water and rinse the sponge and do the cleaning all over again. Spray water on the sheet to wash away the remaining dirt.

There! You have easily cleaned your polycarbonate roof, and you don’t need to look at it again for another 4-6 months.

How often should I have my polycarbonate roof replaced?

With a life expectancy between 15 and 20 years, polycarbonate roofing sheets may need to be replaced on a regular basis. Failing to do so will impair the light transmission performance of the sheet and may lead to nightmare leaks. This could cause long-term damage to the roof and insides of your conservatory, so it’s best to keep on top of it.

In most circumstances, you needn’t worry about replacing your glazing bars. Instead, you may just need to replace the rubber gaskets that prevent water ingress, or the breather tape used along your polycarbonate roof panels.

Should you ever need to replace your conservatory roof or a damaged polycarbonate sheet, browse our range of high-quality polycarbonate sheets. If you’d prefer a flat profile over corrugated, you may want to consider solid polycarbonate sheets. These sheets are virtually unbreakable and are a popular alternative to glass.
